The easiest place to start Cambodian oud is sweet where most oud is austere. Caramel and warm vanilla at the opening, honey and soft spice underneath. It is the origin that most often surprises people who were expecting something medicinal. Known locally as Kratie oud. Ours is grown, not taken from wild forest — the trees are planted and tended, wounded deliberately, then left for years while the resin forms.
