Blue Poppy Seeds Sweet and nutty, great with breads, biscuits and pastries or sprinkled over pasta sauces or salads to give it a crunch. Steenbergs Organic Blue Poppy Seeds come from Papaver somniferum , the same plant used for opium. They re tiny blue-black round seeds with a mildly nutty taste. Poppy Seeds are mostly used in baking, sprinkled over breads and cakes. At Steenbergs, we include them in our Everything Bagel Seasoning.
