Manchester lies over the hills from where I have spent most of my life and most of my memories of this great, northern metropolis involves shopping. I do however love its cultural riches, including the Lowry at Salford Quays and the Whitworth Art Gallery. I remember going to Gay Pride in the 1990s and selling my wares on a street stall amid lots of fun and the everlasting Manchester rain. We got soaked to the skin, which is not unusual in this city.
