I fell in love in Dubai and with Dubai around the turn of the century. He was a British ex pat who introduced me to the wonder of the desert. We camped in the vast, desert wilderness under star lit skies awoken by camels wandering past our tent. It was a huge contrast to the glittering consumer driven oasis of Dubai itself where ambitious architecture seemed to stretch right up to the stars themselves. I loved the mystical minarets of the Jumeriah Mosque, the warm sand and sea of the Persian Gulf on which traditional dows bobbed and where turtles swam. And so passed two years of my life until
