Dresden is the capital in the East German state of Saxony. It's full of grand palaces and state buildings inspired by the Palaces of Versailles. The city oozes grandeur and was obviously trying to make a statement on the world scene when much of the construction happened in the 18th Century. The Frauenkirche is famous for its big dome and it pushes up through my illustration of Dresden . The River Elbe winds its way at the edge of the city, providing a perfect place to promenade and stop for a coffee and a piece of the local delicacy: Christstollen.
