Dortmund is a city in the North-Rhine Peninsula region of Germany. The city's unique architecture reflects the city's turbulent history. Many historic sites had been destroyed during World War II. With only a select amount of buildings such as the ancient churches of Reinoldkirche and Marienkirch being restored or rebuilt, the city underwent a drastic change into architecture of the distinct 1950s style.
