In 2025 I went on a hiking holiday in the Azores with a friend. We took a plane from Lisbon and landed in this beautiful archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean amid mist and cloud, which hung around for the whole time we were there! We walked on 3 of the islands: Pico, with its iconic mountain peak, Sao Jorge, verdant and green, and Faial, with its famous volcanic crater and rock. The Azores are like Iceland meets Wales meets Devon: green, bleak in parts and fertile. It is surrounded by wonderful marine life and people flock to view whales, sharks and more.
