I went to Abu Dhabi at the turn of this century and was wowed by its modernist and ambitious architecture that had sprung out of the desert like a futuristic, manufactured oasis. Having spent time in the Middle East, my heart skips a beat when I see the delicate and delightful minarets reaching for the sky, nestled in between vast glass and metal structures.
