The Rungeto Farmer’s Cooperative Society was established in 1997 by 1,150 farmers who, as a group, reinvigorated coffee growing and processing in their local area. They re-opened three processing mills (locally referred to as coffee factories); Kii, Karimikui, and Kiangoi. The cooperative has gone from strength to strength and today has over 7,800 members. We visited Kii earlier this year (2025) meeting with Danson Kangi (Factory Manager) and Samuel Karanja (Rungeto Cooperative Manager) and touring their facilities.
