The Sierra divides the two states of El Quiche and Huehuetenango and at its highest reaches 3800m. On a clear day, a view to seven volcanoes can be seen from the summit. This is not a traditional coffee growing region; it has a cooler climate more suited to corn and potato which are the crops that the community of Cooperativa El Sendero farmers are more used to growing. It has only really been in the last ten years that the climate has warmed enough to grow coffee at the high altitude of their farms (1800m to 2000m).
