From the estate's heritage page: the Green family acquired Whittern Farm in 1876. In 1880 "the first blackcurrants were cultivated in the farm's kitchen garden". Richard Green expanded operations in the 1890s, followed by his son Lionel Green from 1912, and later his daughter Jo Green, who took over in 1997. The farm also developed "a pedigree herd of prize-winning Hereford bulls", and by the 1920s and 1930s operations had expanded to include "cider orchards, raspberries, strawberries, potatoes, chickens, sheep, and fresh eggs." Commercial blackcurrant cultivation began in 1953, followed by "a supply agreement with Ribena". Jo Green crafted her first cassis batch in 2005, and in 2008 "British Cassis secured a prestigious contract with Fortnum & Mason." Today the estate encompasses "150 acres of blackcurrants, 35 acres of vineyards and 55 acres of cider apple orchards" across a fourth-generation working farm in Herefordshire.
