Portobello Brewery

When did Portobello Brewing Co. start? Portobello was founded by Rob Jenkins & Farooq Khalid in September 2012. Rob is a beer industry veteran who's worked across the industry in a career spanning 30+ years. Farooq is a brewing and engineering whizz who is just as comfortable designing & building new bits of brew kit as he is devising delicious recipes. Who else is involved? We have a team of 9 lovely people based out of our brewery in W10. There are three full time brewers, a sales team of four, two full time delivery drivers & the ever-patient Sandra who keeps things ticking over in our office. We also have our head of finance, Darren, who works remotely so he doesn't get distracted by the chaos at HQ! Why are you called Portobello? Because it's where we're from! Rob, who founded the brewery, has lived on and around the Portobello Road for the best part of 30 years, and most of the team live nearby. We think it's a really special part of London - historic, creative & fantastically diverse - and it's got an incredible range of pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs that we're proud to supply. Doesn't all the cool beer come from East London? When we founded the brewery back in 2012 there was certainly a lot of craft beer coming out of the East side of the city. The brewing scene in the UK has come on in leaps and bounds since then, with world-class beers being produced all over. We're not that concerned with being cool - we focus on brewing balanced beers with full flavour and great drinkability & hope that the liquid speaks for itself! Do you have a taproom? We love where we built our brewery - it's right by Wormwood Scrubs park, about 10 minutes from the Portobello Road - but it's expensive round here! Unfortunately all the space in our unit is taken up by brewing kit, with a tiny little office for processing orders. We do, however, operate a group of pubs which are the best places to head for brewery fresh Portobello beer and the latest specials & seasonals.
