The original Hunter Stoves (Mells) Ltd was formed in the very early 1970's to satisfy a local need of wood stoves for off-grid boiler installations in Somerset and Wiltshire. James Hunter, a navel engineer who was awarded an OBE for his services in the Second World War, moved to Somerset.
