A carving like this takes a full day. Not a morning, not an afternoon - a full day, with chisels, with patience, with decisions about where the wing ends and the wood begins. This hand-carved teak bird sculpture is made in Sri Lanka by artisans who have been working wood their entire lives. The detail in the feathers, the posture of the body, the way the form tapers toward the tail - none of this comes from a machine or a mould.
