Flint (Damp/Dry) is a versatile product that offers a white firing appearance and aids in maintaining the desired shape when fired. Flint doesn't melt until it reaches 1700c so is used to create a structure which the other ingredients can bond with. Used in conjunction with feldspar and clay to make a balanced ceramic body. As a glaze addition, it can increase thermal expansion for a better fit. In order for glaze to performance most effectively it has to have a lower thermal expansion than the clay body. Flint puts the glaze under compression after firing to create a much more robust finished
