Choosing the Right Post Base for Different Patio Finishes The right post base depends on the terrace finish, foundation, and required post height. For our structures, we commonly use Simpson Strong-Tie CPT 66Z and APB 100 adjustable post bases . However, each option suits different installation conditions. Simpson Strong-Tie CPT 66Z The CPT 66Z works well with porcelain and paved terraces. Ideally, we position the base below the finished paving level. As a result, the paving can sit neatly around the timber post. This approach also keeps most of the metalwork hidden and creates a clean finish.
