The Strayton Cast Iron Hopper Head No.42 — code H42A — is a large-format rectangular rainwater hopper with a strong horizontal profile and a clean, functional character. It belongs to the tradition of Victorian and Edwardian commercial and civic hoppers: wide, plain-bodied, and built to handle significant volumes of water from large roof areas. The H42A presents as a broad, shallow-fronted rectangular box with flat panel sides and a projecting top rim. There is no applied decoration; the proportions and the quality of the casting carry it.
