Tyger Tyger by Mark Hearld was developed from a series of linocuts created during the lockdown period. Printed in warm apricot and cobalt on oyster linen, the design was inspired by an eighteenth-century needlepoint tiger said to have belonged to the circle of William Blake, together with the graphic figurative imagery found on American block-printed bandboxes from the Federal period. Hearld combined these influences with a fascination for eighteenth-century Provençal textiles, drawing upon traditional madder and indigo colour combinations to create the pattern’s distinctive palette.
