he 1950 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 was a two-door hardtop coupe that was introduced as a new model for the 1950 model year. What set the Rocket 88 apart was its engine, a high-compression overhead valve V8 dubbed the "Rocket." This engine was originally developed for the larger and more luxurious Oldsmobile 98 but was placed in the smaller, lighter 88 chassis. The result was exceptional performance and speed for the time.
