This piece holds a special place in my heart. I designed this at the time of one of the late 20 th century recessions. When I travelled to London and emerged from Waterloo to walk across the bridge, I would stop and count the cranes as a means of checking commerce. The more the cranes the better the commerce. In those days the cranes were of a delightful cantilevered structure pointing towards various landmarks in the city.
