Knit the Shetland way! The fair isle motif on the back of the hand is a particular favourite of mine as my grandmother Jemima used it countless times. My one remaining pair of gloves made by her has this motif on them. The construction of these mitts are made in the same style so the techniques used go back for generations of Shetland knitters. These techniques include a thumb gusset and a folded, patterned cuff so may prove to be a little challenging to a new knitter.
