  Stated by the company: "Slate has been worked and shaped into a variety of products at Inigo Jones Slate Works since 1861. The site established initially to answer the need for School Writing Slates. Later during the 1980's a public demand was growing by visitors for a behind the scenes view of the slate Works to learn more about the slate industry and how the Slate crafts were made at Inigo Jones. A Self Guided Tour of the works has been offered ever since." Source.
