Psyllium husks are ideal as a digestive aid for horses particularly those animals kept on sandy or gravelly paddocks or turnout areas. When ingested the Psyllium swells and forms a mucilagenous and gel like substance that as it passes through the digestive system acting as a hydroscopic sponge, soaking up and helping to clear any unwanted foreign material (such as sandy deposits and indigestible roughage).
