Dry heat, after the fire goes out. Sun-warmed wood and dry spice, the kind of heat that holds no softness, only pepper and resin in still, warm air. A deep ambery core glows at the heart, lit by black pepper, juniper berries and frankincense, the resin kept aromatic and bone-dry, never sweet.
