The Churchill Mk III Tank was a product of the British Army's approach to dividing the role of tanks in to 3 categories: the Light Tank, intended mainly for a recon role, the Cruiser, intended to be a light and fast to exploit gaps in the enemy's defence, and the Infantry tank, intended to support the infantry during attacks.
