Tawny ports are aged longer in smaller casks, unlike their younger Ruby port counterparts. This extended maturation allows for greater oxidation, turning the port from deep ruby red to amber-orange. This process imparts rich layers of dried fruit, caramel, and nutty characteristics to the final wine. These American white oak casks are used to mature Fine Tawny port for three years. The combination of port influence and American oak seasoning creates a wine with fresh fruit character and a light nuttiness.
